Botox®
Facial wrinkles frequently result from repeated muscle contraction. By weakening or paralyzing these muscles, Botox offers a safe, effective and non-surgical approach to treating these wrinkles.
In 2002, following Dr. Klein’s development of a definitive injection pattern, the FDA approved Botox for cosmetic use. Its popularity has since skyrocketed, as the treatment leaves no visible evidence of a cosmetic procedure and lasts between three to nine months depending on the number of previous treatments. Also, a memory response may develop if injections occur every three months for approximately one year. So it may be possible to lengthen the time interval between treatments and still obtain the same effect.
During the procedure, Dr. Klein uses a thin needle to inject tiny amounts of Botox into specific facial muscles. By carefully choosing the muscles to treat, he only weakens the wrinkle-producing ones, thus preserving natural facial expressions. His meticulous, artistic approach requires multiple injections, depending on facial features, the extent of the wrinkling and the specific area being treated. For example, crow's feet usually require two to three injections. Furrows in the forehead may need five or more injections. Each injection usually takes 10 to 15 minutes and can be mildly painful, but most patients can tolerate the discomfort well.
Over the years, the popularity of Botox has led to an influx of novice injectors, operating in beauty parlors or malls or spas. Many of these inexperienced practitioners never learned the proper injection pattern, nor do they understand the product’s behavior once injected. With his skill and experience, Dr. Klein can use fewer units of Botox to achieve the desired, excellent results. He developed the injection technique and remains the foremost physician in the field.
